Eight Lines – The Alpha Director has eight lines.

16 or 24 Characters per Line – Alpha Directormodels will display either:

sixteen 1.4-inch characters per line (128 characters per page)or

twenty-four 1.4-inch characters per line. (192 characters perpage).

26 Message Files – 26 different message files containinga combined total of 166 to 250 pages can be stored scheduled anddisplayed according to time and day of the week.

TriColor – Text may be displayed in three colors –red green and yellow – or in three rainbow color combinations.Specifying the built-in Autocolor feature automatically and randomlychanges the color of each screen of text.

Sans Serif Character Font – Text is displayed in sansserif (block).

Two Character Sizes:

1.4" (7 pixels) – upper or lower case are visibleup to 75'.

1"(5 pixels) – upper case only

Battery Backup – The Alpha Director has batterybackup for messages. Messages are retained in memory for up to a monthwhen the Alpha Director is powered off.

Sequence Message Files – Message files may be run inany sequence. Message files may be listed more than once in the sequence.

Message Scheduling – Each message file can displayon its own schedule automatically turning on and turning off at specifiedtimes on specified days without human or computer intervention. Eachmessage file can be programmed with the day and time to start runningand the day and time to stop running. Daily recurring messages suchas Lunch Time Specials and Coffee Break Specials ormessages coordinated with public transportation arrival and departureschedules can turn on and turn off at the appropriate times eachday. Safety-oriented messages such as "Lift With Your Legs Not WithYour Back" or "Don't Forget To Wear Your Safety Goggles" can be scheduledto display at different times instead of at the same time to achievemaximum effect and variety.

Wireless Keyboard – The Alpha Director comeswith a remote control keyboard. The remote control keyboard emitsinfrared light that controls many Alpha Director functions.The remote control keyboard can be used up to 30 feet away from theAlpha Director. It can be used to:

Password Protection and Message Locking – These featuresare provided to prevent unauthorized messages or changes to messagesin the Alpha Director.

International Character Set – Messages may contain allthe upper and lower case letters (A - Z and a - z) the numbers 0- 9 and the special characters:

These characters and symbols allow you to compose messages inmore than one language in English and in Spanish for exampleso you can display the messages in an alternating language messagesequence.

Seven Display Modes – The Alpha Director has7 display modes that control how the characters of each page enterdisplay and exit. Using a variety of display modes in a message gives"eye-appeal" to the message:

Automode – Characters enter display and exit undercontrol of randomly selected display modes.

Wipe(Up Down Left Right) – Characters are revealed aseach horizontal row or vertical column of pixels is lighted rowby row or column by column – from the top row of the characterdown (Wipe Down) from the bottom row of the character up (WipeUp) from the left column of the message to the right (Wipe Right)or from the right column of the message to the left (Wipe Left).

Hold– Characters display without effects or motion for a specifiedlength of time. The length of time the message stays on the screenis determined by the Speed code.

Flash– Characters blink on and off simultaneously several times.

SixSpeeds –The Alpha Director has six Speed codes that control how longcharacters stay on the display in Hold mode and how long charactersstay on the screen in the various Wipe and Flash modes.

AutomaticMessage Centering – Messages are automatically centered onthe Alpha Director display in all display modes except whenthe Fixed Characters code is used. The Fixed Characters code left-justifiesmessages and uses fixed (equal) character spacing from left to right.The primary use of the Fixed Characters code on the Alpha Directoris to display similar fields of data on consecutive screens in thesame pixel positions.

Real-TimeClock – The Alpha Director has a built-in batterybacked up real-time clock. The time and date (day month year) canbe set using either the remote control keyboard or using a computerwith software that sends the computer’s time and date to the AlphaDirector. The day date and time are retained in Alpha Directormemory for up to a month when the unit is powered off.

12-or 24-Hour Time Display – The Alpha Director can displaythe time of day in either 12-hour or 24-hour format.

ComputerConnection – The Alpha Director may be attached toa wide variety of computers control equipment and communication devices.

SupportsMultiple Communications Protocols – The Alpha Directorsupports multiple communication protocols. RS232 and RS485 and twoRJ11 attachment ports are standard features. Ethernet and POCSAG attachmentoptions are also offered. Numerous cable network wireless and modemconnectivity options are supported by the Alpha Director

AddressEach Display – Each Alpha Director can be given aunique address so that messages and data may sent by computer orcontrol devices to different displays on the same cable wirelesschannel modem phone number or TCP/IP address. 255 addresses are availableand the Alpha Director address may be set or changed easilywith the remote control keyboard or using a computer and special software.The Alpha Director enclosure does not have to be opened.

MessageVerification and Error Checking – Built-in features ensurethat messages are received accurately when a computer or control equipmentsends messages or data to the Alpha Director by cable.

Non-BlinkingString File Updates – The Alpha Director supports"String Files" and real-time updating of String Files without blinkingthe messages displayed on the sign. String files are memory areasset aside in sign memory by special programming. One use of StringFiles is to store changing data being updated by an external deviceor computer. For example the Alpha Director could be programmedto display five (or more) ACD statistics fields for each of ten (ormore) ACD queues. As the real time values change for each of the 50variables (5 x 10) the updated values can be transmitted into theAlpha Director instantly without causing the Alpha Directorto blink and without affecting the information currently being displayed.String Files can also be used to save sign memory. For example ifthe same data is displayed multiple times within a message the datacan be stored once in a String File and recalled from its String Filelocation each time it is needed.

NestedCommands – For programmers writing control sequences usingnative sign communication protocol multiple commands can be repeatedor "nested" within a transmission frame.

ClearMemory Easily – When debugging and testing software and messagesfeatures the remote control keyboard can be used to clear the memoryof the sign quickly and conveniently without opening the AlphaDirector enclosure or taking it down from where it is mounted.Clearing memory removes all messages graphic files and the passwordthat have been programmed into the Alpha Director.

SupportsWireless Applications – The Alpha Director supportsPOCSAG or pager transmission format. It can be programmed for wirelessapplications.

WirelessNews and Sports Service – The Alpha Director can beequipped with a wireless broadcast receiver that will display thelatest news headlines financial market summaries sports informationand scores in addition to your own messages. The receiver and newsservice are extra charge options.

UpdateFirmware Easily – When new features or firmware improvementsfor the Alpha Director are announced by Adaptive Micro Systemsfirmware upgrades may be purchased and easily installed. AlphaDirector firmware is provided on a chip conveniently mounted ina chip carrier that literally snaps into a socket inside the AlphaDirector enclosure under a hinged door.
